Sunflowers and Seashells

Today has been a literary-good day. No, not a "literally" good day, (although, truth be told, it was) it had been a literary good day. As in literature.

Why?

1. My "all things literature blog," darklightlullabye.com is getting some awesome traffic. Aside from my new viewers, today I found out that a SECOND author came and read my review of the book she wrote... Bad Girls Don't Die (Katie Alender). It was a book I thoroughly enjoyed. No, she didn't Twitter about it (at least, I don't think so) and didn't bring a dozen new followers with her, but she did leave me a nice comment :) Hooray for authors reading my reviews of their works!

2. Got a letter in the mail today :) It was a happy letter. It told me that the poem I submitted to the National Amateur Poetry Competition made it to the semi-finals, which means (this is the exciting part) IT'S GONNA BE PUBLISHED! IN A BOOK! An "anthology," to be specific, or, as my letter says, "a volume of contemporary poetry," called Sunflowers and Seashells. Well, what do you know. Two of my favorite things. Tacky names and creative writing :)

I wish I had some witty, irrevelant story to tell that would make you laugh. But I don't. Sorry. Life has been pretty un-witty lately. Or, you know, the stories I have to tell wouldn't quite make sense over the internet: more of the "you had to be there to get it" sort of deal, and since I don't want to make you feel isolated and uncool, I will not put such a story on here. No making you feel bad. That's a big no-no for me. I don't make my viewers feel bad about themselves, because that's sick and wrong, like eating puppies!

:)

  5. Look for my poem called "Storm of Ferocity". I've been writing for years, and it's very nice to have my stuff be recognized :-)

  6. Wow! I didn't know so many people were into this poetry contest! Congrats to everyone! It's super exciting, huh? Getting published and recognized! "Anonymous" of 13... I think it's awesome that you are into writing poetry at 13; I'm 19 and I wrote the poem I entered a year ago, and I thought I was young to get into it! And I think I can speak for all of us when I say KEEP GOING! Keep writing, keep expressing, and keep loving it. Congrats, again, to everyone! I certainly will look for your poems. Mine is called "Inside Out."

  9. Hello,
I too have a poem that was in the finals called, "My House". Does any one know when the winners will be announced and when is the book going to be out for sale?
This is a lot of fun, I was just worried that it was some sort of scam, since it has been so long since I have heard from anyone.
Please let me know if you hear anything, and good luck.

  11. Same thing here! I've haven't heard anything for months. I thought maybe that was because I didn't win anything...? But if I'm not the only one who hasn't heard... It's a major letdown! After all those letters at the beginning, filling at those forms when they say you're in the semi-finals and are getting published... Darn, Eber and Wein! Stop keeping us waiting! If anyone hears anything, feel free to comment here. -Holly

  12. Just got my letter and a list of the winners. I am also one of the many who will be published in Sunflowers and Seashells but not a winner. I got a certificate of achievement though. First place winner is from Yakima WA don't know if I can put his name on here or not. Just letting you know. Eber and Wein picked the winner according to my letter December 1.

  13. I also am in the book and received the certificate. I did not do it myself, my sister did it. I truely believe that every one will eventually be published, as long as you by the book. I have read some of the poems in the book and they just made me laugh, they were so bad. I think my poor sister got scamed for 69.95, to by that book. J.

  14. I also was published in the book Sunflowers and Seashells with my poem "Chainless." I have been published before in the Anthology Rhymes of Greatness with my poem "Heavens Child" and another poem "Two birds of a feather." Although both of those were with another publisher and a different poetry contest.

  15. So...this is one of the few sites I can find about this book. Can you check out and see if my poem "Have You Ever" had gotten published? We never ordered the book, and even though I made it to semi-finalists I'm not sure a certain family member of mine sent back the right papers, so could you just please check and see if "Have You Ever" is in there?
