Security Guards and Barnes and Noble
So, I'm here at Barnes and Noble, using the internet. And smelling delicious (yet unobtainable) tasty Starbucks smells and surrounded by books. Mmmm. Best place ever.
However, I'm sitting by the door in the "Web Lounge" or whatever you want to call it, and I'm pretty sure there's a SECURITY GUARD standing by me. Um. At least, I assume he's a secruity guard. Because he's all dressed in a full on suit and tie and spiffy shoes, and he's just standing there by the door, observing everyone. He even has spiffy gold cuff links, and I'm pretty sure there's a gold pin on his lapel, but I can't be sure because I'm sitting on the opposite side of him. Can I just say that I'm terribly intimidated? He seems nice, but really, all security guards intimidate me. Isn't that their jobs? He seems really bored, kind of rocking back and forth on his feet.
OH! Wait! He just directed a kid to the bathroom, and now he's wandering a bit. Checking things out. Liike a security guard.
OH! I just saw his jacket! Okay, so it was a gold tie pin, and on the breast of his jacket was a patch/detail thing that said "M--- (something Security."
So that's it. He officially is a security guard.
Okay, so I feel safer now. Isn't that what security guards are supposed to do? But I also feel like... should I have reason to NOT feel safe? This is Barnes and Noble! All things are safe at Barnes and Noble! This is the home of millions of fairy tales and dreams and... goodness. Barnes and Noble= GOODNESS. It holds the esscense of my soul.
So why do they need a security guard?
I think I should make friends with him. I think I would like him. But I don't think he's supposed to fraternize with the possible threats like me (Am I possible threat? I sure hope not). Or, you know, dorks like me, because I am a happily self-proclaimed dork. And I'm just alright with that :D
Barnes and Noble really is, truly, my happy place. There is nothing but joy here. I absolutely love the smell of new books. If I could bottle that scent, of new ink and freshly cracked spine and the excitement of dingind a new story... I'd spray it on my pillow and let it soak into my dreams every single night. I'd bathe in it. I'd spray it on random strangers as they walked by.
If I could, I'd live here. It's perfect: Noto nly do I have all the books to last me a lifetime, there's a security guard to keep me safe, the Starbucks for delicious pastries and such and the best hot chocolate in the world for substance, internet access, and hello, they have the best bathrooms ever. Or at least that's what I've heard. I don't think I've ever actually seen a B&N bathroom. Aimmee, one of my old roommates once told me that everytime she goes into a Barnes and Noble, she has to go check out their bathrooms. Which I think it a totally cute quirk to have. One of my cousins once said that if she could get locked in any store overnight, it's be a Barnes and Noble. Smart kid.

Future... chuuus
FINALLY! I KNOW WHAT THE NEXT MONTH LOOKS LIKE, officially!
TUESDAY, Mom, Steph, Greg and I are driving down to Oceanside to stay at my Grandparents' Harris' house, (where my dad is currently residing due to work stuff). WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT: Because I'm staying there, baby! I'm moving in with my grands' and my pop in OCEANSIDE, CALIFORNIA!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!
In the following month, we'll be searching out apartments, condo's, the like, for us, the three Empey's, to move into sometime soon. Once we find a semi-permanent place to stay, Mom will come down and join us.
CALIFORNIA, HERE I COME!!!
And I finally got my schooling in order! YUUUS. In the Fall I will be completing a CNA course (Certified Nurses Assistant) which will only take like, one semester, at Mira Costa. From there, I will (hopefully!) enter a MA (Medical Assisting) program at Palomar. That is, if Palomar brings it back, which it might in the spring. The MA program was cut from ALL the San Diego County Community Colleges due to budget cuts. (adsjghfeahvsdahfkstjksadufklwerjvkrdjfvae;oi) As if budget cuts REALLY ended at high school...psh.
SO! My summer: moving to Oceanside, house hunting with pops all over San Diego County, TAKING prerequisite classes (CPR, testing out of whatever English class I might have to take, the like...), and soaking up my lovely California sun! WITH MY OLD TEMECULA FRIENDS! CHUSSS!
As you can see, I'm quite excited.
Okay, I'm beyond excited. Having a PLAN after all these months of waaaaaaaaaiting... it's quite fun.

Adventures in the Kitchen
3. As I was going up the stairs from the basement, I heard my mom exclaim, "This is a rice cooker?!?!" I nearly dropped my load of laundry I was laughing so hard.
2. Later, while making my oatmeal, I happened to glance at the box.
"Awaken your senses:
Pure deliciousness
Enticing aroma
Invigorating warmth"
Wow, oatmeal, I didn't realize you were this cool.
1. A conversation via text messages with the fantastic Stephanie Lovett:
*note: for those of you not aware of the correct terminology of sprinkles, "Jimmies" are the long, skinny stick-like sprinkles that come in rainbow colors or just plain brown chocolate. They are the ultimate awesomeness and Stephanie and I have a sort of inside-joke obsession about them.
Holly: So, I'm making cupcakes, and of course I'm using jimmies, and my mom comes up and tells me, "most adults don't like sprinkles." I am appalled. I will no longer be growing up.
Stephanie: of course adults love jimmies! What is she talking about?
Holly: I don't know. I'm just... ah.l Distrubed that those words could even be said. LIES!!!
Stephanie: don't worry, she didn't mean it!
Holly: My grandma just agreed with her. These women are seriously confused.
Stephanie: They're just blinded by what society is telling them about jimmies!
Holly: (there really was no response better than that, so I went with a...) bahahahahahahahha
Stephanie: hahaha :D
My mother later apologized for "altering our views of the universe."
I'm not so sure I'm ready to forgive her yet.

My Petersons
Stephanie (Empey) Peterson is my big sister, and I love her.
And Greg Peterson is the best brother-in-law a sister could ask for and I love him, too.
And they are fantastic people who are going to do great things and lead great lives.

New Layout!
Can you read everything alright? If not, tell me, and I'll fix it. No point posting anything if it's impossible to see, you know?
I think the background is preeeeeeeeeeety.
New layout for Darklightlullabye.com too! (it's a TREE. I'm beyond happy with it)
So feel free to feast with your eyes!

Poke Poke, Bunny
I learned recently that a relative of mine takes her three-legged bunnies to get acupuncture. Those poor, poor bunnies.
But as terrible as I feel for those bunnies (I think that's the point where you need to start thinking about the quality of life for those things), all I can think is: how in the world do you get into a profession like Bunny Acupuncture?
Somehow, I don't think it's a booming business.

Fortune Cookie's Are DELICIOUS!
And with Diane Setterfield's "The Thirteenth Tale" which just so happens to be like, my favorite ALL TIME non-fantasy book (which is saying something), I have officially hit BOOK #73!
And, with that said, I think I'm taking a break from my goal. It's getting distracting. Who would have thought that the ONE goal I work through is the one that turns out to be bad for me? Psh. Irony.
So, I have to admit: I did some retail therapy today. And not at all what you think. I needed a break, so I walked the mall, and yes: I splurged. I bought a key chain with a silver fortune cookie one it. It is probably to most epic thing I have seen.
(well, since I found the "fake mustache of the day!" 7-day pack. That is going to be pretty hard to beat.)
So I bought it, and every time I see my keys now, I smile. $8- NOT WASTED. Sweet.

I Miss My Blog
It has come to my attention that I rarely ever post. This is very true. However, situations are that I don't get around to the computer very often. Just like I don't get around to my laundry very often. (But often enough. It's not like I'm wearing dirty clothes. Ew. Don't think that. Cause it's not true.)
I often think of clever things that I'd like to blog. I often WANT to blog, but am not in a position to get on the internet.
"But Holly," you might say. "You post on Facebook so much more often than you actually blog!"
And although I'm pretty sure no one has ever noticed that, it is, essentially true. Why? Because I get Facebook and MLIA on my phone, baby! Sadly, and yes, I was very upset: I can not blog from my phone. So insanely disappointing, let me assure you.
Also, I might warn that I have no idea when this-- my grandma's computer-- is going to be unplugged, do to the fact she is moving. When? Who knows. Someone has to buy the house. And can I just say? having to be ready to have some potential buyer come look at the house any moment of any day is SO cramping my style. Yes, the style of "relaxed organization" and "nap time."
Anyways. So there is my formal apology. I wish I wrote more too. But the fact is: I'm lazy, so I don't get around to it a lot because there are obstacles. And that is that.
Just an idea: when disappointed because I haven't updated, why not check out mylifeisaverage.com?
Seriously. They need to pay me for all the publicity that I give them.
